Chihuahua Training
The main principles of Chihuahua training are the same as those for other dog breeds. All dogs strive to pack leadership, but with the Chihuahua, people often see no problem in a little creature trying to dominate. Chihuahuas are often allowed to do things that larger dogs are punished for, such as jumping up on humans. Permissive owners encourage dominance behavior in a dog, which often results in serious problems, like unmotivated aggression, hyper protectiveness, jealousy, and others. Such dogs are very suspicious of strangers and cannot be trusted with children.
Chihuahua training and exercising can take the same amount of time, as it’s with larger dogs. Though small, Chihuahuas need much exercise. Running around in the house is not enough for the Chihuahuas. They should be walked to get mental stimulation and satisfy their curiosity. Daily walks help get rid of some behavior problems and form close bonds between the dog and the owner.
Talking about children, this breed is not for kids. Chihuahua training is not as easy as it may seem. A child should not be trusted housebreaking and training a Chihuahua puppy, because it needs special knowledge and experience. To train a Chihuahua one must be very patient and have much time. It may take some time to find an approach to your dog and choose the most suited method of training. Novice owners have to read much on the subject and consult with the breeder or other specialists.
Reputable breeders start socializing their puppies from the first weeks of their life. In good kennels, all dogs are kept as family members in a stress free atmosphere. They have an opportunity to see various people and dogs. Most responsible breeders give their dogs basic obedience training prior to selling them. Good kennels sell adult purebred dogs already housebroken and well trained. If a puppy is bought from a pet store, it will be difficult to train, because such puppies are usually raised massively in puppy mills or backyard kennels where nobody cares about their socialization and training. Chihuahua training should start as soon as it’s possible.
