However, archaeologists found ancient Toltec graves with small dog skeletons in them, which indicates that the history of Chihuahuas goes farther back and the dog might well have been an element of ancient religious rites. Others believe that Chihuahuas arrived from Asia (China, Egypt etc.).

In 1904, the breed was registered by the American Kennel Club and that was when the dog started its worldwide voyage as a recognized breed along with other known breeds. Chihuahuas come in two varieties: short haired and long haired. There is no distinct color limitation and they occur in vast numbers of different color combinations.

Many people think that the dog is pretty much of a nuisance by nature and is prone to annoying behavior, but that is not always so. If anything like that happens, it is due to failures to properly train and socialize the dog. Otherwise it is doubtful that Chihuahuas would have been so popular if that was true.
